Lumen Field Partners with Max-R to Upgrade Stadium-Wide Waste and Recycling Infrastructure

Custom three-stream waste systems now installed throughout the venue, supporting Lumen Field's TRUE Gold zero-waste program and long-term diversion goals.

New Waste System

SEATTLE, WA — Lumen Field has partnered with Max-R, a leading provider of custom waste and recycling solutions, to install a new generation of waste receptacles throughout the stadium. The new systems are purpose-built, three-stream units designed to grow alongside the venue's evolving diversion program.

Lumen Field, a TRUE Gold certified zero-waste facility, has long prioritized responsible resource management across its operations. In selecting a new waste solution, the stadium's operations team sought a product that could adapt to future program changes without requiring full replacement, a flexibility that became central to the decision.

"In looking for new waste receptacles, we wanted them to be able to grow with our diversion program. As we began to evolve our waste streams, the flexibility of how Max-R bins are constructed made them the clear next step in our journey. Beyond the functionality, the bins look great in our space and fit the Lumen Field brand perfectly. The ability to reconfigure openings with minimal changeover means we can adapt as our program advances, without starting from scratch."

— Christy Briggs, Sustainability and Housekeeping Manager, Lumen Field

The new units feature three distinct openings, currently configured for two waste streams with built-in capacity for a third. That third opening reflects a forward-looking decision: Lumen Field has begun separating bottles and cans at the front of house, giving operations teams a head start on sorting an additional stream before it reaches the back of house. The design also leaves room for a future reuse program as the venue continues to advance its zero-waste goals.

The installation represents a full stadium upgrade, with Max-R units now in place across Lumen Field's concourses and public areas, indoors and out.

Max-R builds all products from recycled HDPE lumber at its U.S. manufacturing facility, producing a material that is non-porous, UV-stable, and engineered to hold up in high-traffic environments year-round. Each unit is custom built to order, with interchangeable lids and openings that allow venues to reorder stream configurations as programs evolve.

“Christy was an outstanding partner throughout the entire process. Her clear objectives for Lumen Field aligned perfectly with our design approach, resulting in custom receptacles that will support their sustainability and operational goals for years to come. These units are built for high volume and ready to become a true part of the 12s experience!”

Lumen Field achieved TRUE Gold Certification for Zero Waste in November of 2025, becoming the second professional football venue to reach that standard. The venue diverted more than 6 million pounds of waste from landfill during its year-long certification period, representing a 93% diversion rate.
